We all want to lose weight and exercise more — January often brings resolutions that that we probably won't stick to for more than a few weeks.
But caring for your skin is much easier, it doesn't require preparing meals or getting out of bed before dawn. That makes the new year a great time to renew your commitment to getting the basics right. For a clear, beautiful complexion in 2014, check out these three basic skincare steps and resolve to make them happen twice a day.
Rinsing with water alone is often enough to remove daily dirt and oil buildup, especially if you're using a powerful treatment product. If you'd like to use a cleanser, try something that won't cause irritation like the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser or a foaming cleanser without harsh chemicals.
For acne, consider a spot treatment with salicylic acid, sulfur, or our Acne Control Complex with benzoyl peroxide and tea tree oil. If you use more than one acne treatment product, use one in the morning and the other in the evening. Benzoyl peroxide can cause a bit of sun sensitivity, so it's best used in the evening.
In winter months, I take a two-pronged approach. Right out of the shower, I apply some jojoba oil. After I shave and moisturize the rest of my skin, I apply a regular facial moisturizer. Solid choices are the AM & PM moisturizers from CeraVe and the SPF Oil Control Mattifier from Murad.
Consider exfoliation, antiaging products, masks, and other skincare tools as extras. After all, what good is an expensive eye cream if you're not getting the basics right?
